Four proven tips to help you overcome an attack from the enemy.
In my opinion, spiritual attacks just aren’t talked about enough in Christian circles. I could go on and on about how it’s not talked about at all…but I’ll save that for another day.
I’m really excited to share with you how to overcome a spiritual attack, but first I want to give some general examples of what a spiritual attack might look like.
One important thing to remember is that the enemy HATES when you are growing closer to the Lord, so don’t be surprised if that’s when these attacks take place.
How to Recognize a Spiritual Attack
- You experience a sudden increase in trials–personal or relational
- You have many losses that seemingly come out of nowhere. (Think of Job 1-2)
- Physical danger (Think of Daniel in the lion’s den)
- Illness–explained and unexplained
- Increased temptation or luring toward sin (Think of Jesus in the wilderness Matthew 4:1-11)
- Feelings of despair or depression
- Suddenly fearful
- Feeling isolated from Christian friends or spouse
- Experiencing deep confusion, condemnation, & guilt
- You have a dulled spiritual awareness
What to do when Experiencing a Spiritual Attack
Recently, my husband and I have been going through a prayer training class called Deep Tree. I can’t wait to tell you more about it!
Essentially, it has been a boot camp for our prayer lives. Going through this class has been so great—BUT–we have been experiencing a lot of spiritual attacks as we strengthen our relationship with God.
Pastor Donny Howell (Deep Tree Executive Leader) has been an awesome mentor on this journey and has graciously agreed to let me share his four super-practical steps to take when you are experiencing a spiritual attack.
He sent these steps to the group via text at just the exact right moment, and let me tell you–they have been a game-changer for me as I draw closer to the Lord.
Pastor Donny did want me to mention that these are just the initial steps for believers who are walking obediently with the Lord. The attack may require more–but that is when you would want to reach out to a spiritual pastor or leader.
Four Steps to Overcoming a Spiritual Attack
Text 4-5 people and ask them to pray for you because you are under a spiritual attack. Keep it just that simple–you are not required to give any detail.
Everything within you will NOT want to do this because the enemy wants you to feel isolated and alone.
DO NOT SKIP THIS STEP!
Step through the fog of the attack and ask for prayer. This is a major step towards victory!
Put on worship music.
Grab your Bible and begin reading. Consider reading out loud if you are able. I always recommend reading from the Psalms during an attack, but go where the Spirit leads you.
Continue to read and worship until you feel the attack has subsided.
If you continue to feel attacked, seek advice or council from your church pastor or spiritual mentor
Pastor Donny doesn’t want to leave anyone in the dark, so if you are without a spiritual leader in your life–email: email@example.com –to be put in touch with Pastor Donny himself.
I know you will experience freedom from attack as you implement these steps in your life. For me, the enemy often causes confusion and dulls my spiritual senses, so having these super practical tips handy has made my plan fool-proof.
One thing I will say is that you are better safe than sorry. In other words, if there is any question in your mind that you might be under attack–go ahead and follow the steps–it can’t hurt anything.
