Verses about Love
There have been so many times when I have googled the exact phrase, “verses about love.” It is something I’m always on the lookout for–looking for new ways that God tells me about love in the Bible.
Love is what the Bible is all about, after all.
In honor of Valentine’s Day, I decided to gather all of my favorite scriptures about love in one place.
It was hard for me to narrow down my favorites, but I managed to get it down to 22 verses about love. These are mostly verses that tell us how to love one another by modeling the love that Christ has for us.
**I put my most favorite scripture as #1. “There is no fear in love.” Hmm…love that!!**
The 22 Most Popular Bible Verses about Love
1| 1 John 4:18
There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.
2| 1 Peter 4:8
Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.
3| 1 Corinthians 16:14
Let all that you do be done in love.
4| Colossians 3:14
Above all, be loving. This ties everything together perfectly.
5| Proverbs 10:12
Hate stirs up trouble, but love forgives all offenses.
6| 1 Corinthians 13:13
So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.
7| Romans 12:9-10
Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves.
8| Ephesians 5:25
Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her.
9| Galatians 5:13-14
For you have been called to live in freedom, my brothers and sisters. But don’t use your freedom to satisfy your sinful nature. Instead, use your freedom to serve one another in love. For the whole law can be summed up in this one command: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself’.
10| Ephesians 5:2
Live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.
11| 1 Timothy 1:7
For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love, and of self-discipline.
12| 1 Thessalonians 3:12
May the Lord make your love increase and overflow for each other…
13| 1 Corinthians 13:4-7
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails…
14| 1 Corinthians 16:14
Do everything in love.
15| 1 John 4:10-12
This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.
16| Joshua 22:5
But be very careful…to love the Lord your God, to walk in all his ways, to obey his commands, to hold fast to him and to serve him with all your heart and all your soul.
17| Mark 10:6-9
But at the beginning of creation God ‘made them male and female.’ ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.’ So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.
18| Song of Solomon 8:3
I am my beloved’s and my beloved is mine.
19| Ecclesiastes 4:9-12
Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up. Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm. But how can one keep warm alone? Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.
20| Song of Solomon 8:16
Place me like a seal over your heart, like a seal on your arm; for love is as strong as death, its jealousy unyielding as the grave. It burns like blazing fire, like a mighty flame. Many waters cannot quench love; rivers cannot sweep it away. If one were to give all the wealth of one’s house for love, it would be utterly scorned.
21| Romans 13:8
Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for whoever loves others has fulfilled the law.
22| 1 Corinthians 3:1-3
If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.
