About Me

My name is Ally and I live on a little 4-acre oasis in Indiana with my husband, Ryan and our three boys–Ethan (8), Grant (5) and Joseph (4).  Oh and our dog, Stella and two cats, Graham & Derrick!

I’m a stay-at-home mom and am currently homeschooling our kiddos–stay tuned for many posts on that topic.

I started this blog as a creative outlet and because I have a passion for sharing my ideas with other people.  I love to read, write, doodle, and journal–sometimes all at the same time!  It’s pretty amazing, actually. Hahah!

What started as a hobby has quickly turned into an accountability partner and a whole community of people supporting one another. I have learned that I’m not the only one on a mission to live a simple life–knowing that a life with Christ doesn’t have to be so hard.

The name of the blog “The Modern Mary” is actually referring to Mary in Luke 10:38-42.  There is a full post explaining the story and reason behind the name HERE. But the short version is that I want to be more like Mary–less busy, less obsessed with perfection, and more about seeking out the Lord and listening to His teachings.

We need to keep it simple.

I’m trying, I really am.  And I’m keeping track of my journey here on this blog. Maybe some of my experiences or lessons learned can help you along the way as well!

On the right side of the page you can find me on social media and subscribe to my newsletter.  Let’s connect and help each other along the way.

Was looking for something to help me start a small group study and ran across your blog.(new to this arena don’t know what blogs are about) It is very nice! I felt deeply impressed by God to ask you to sacrifice a few minutes of your very tight schedule to maybe show me how i could start a blog on suicide. I almost succeeded in 1982, because of a failed marriage, but i heard God’s voice say,”Don’t do it”. It will be called, “The Suicide Report” Don’t type very fast, and i am still learning about the computer! (you can’t see the tears running down my face as i type this) I just want to get this out of my head to maybe help some mom, or dad, or teenager take another look at life, and how it is a precious gift from Jesus!( If i can just get started, i believe i can make it the rest of the way. Thank you for your time. L.D. Carr
